About the Trail

Ever since people have occupied the land we now call North America, they’ve utilized the resources surrounding them. Here in the Southeastern United States, the history of the people who’ve not only lived, but thrived, goes back thousands of years. Indigenous communities adapted, using the flora available and modifying the landscape to suit their needs, and we continue on the foundation they laid to this day. In the American History Botanical Trail, you’ll find a variety of plants that are notable for their importance to human survival in both Georgia and across North America as a whole.
